Recently, OpenAI<\/strong> announced the launch of a new feature for ChatGPT<\/strong> called “Memory”<\/a>, which allows the chatbot to store the personal details you share in conversations and refer to this information in future chats. Although the feature is not yet available publicly, Reece Rogers<\/strong> from WIRED<\/a><\/strong> has had the opportunity to test it. Here’s a summary of how ChatGPT’s new tool works.<\/p>\n\n\n

To begin with, when you first have access to the Memory feature (it is activated automatically), you receive a notification that explains this new tool<\/strong>. If users wish, they can easily deactivate it<\/strong> by opening Settings, then Personalization and deactivating the Memory option by moving the slider to the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To add information about yourself to the ChatGPT Memory, all you have to do is chat with the chatbot and it will passively collect all kinds of information about you<\/strong>. In addition to this, you can also start a prompt with the phrase “Please remember that…” or something similar to add information that you want to archive in the ChatGPT Memory.<\/p>\n\n\n

To see what information the chatbot stores about you<\/strong>, click on your username, go to Settings and Personalization, and then tap the Manage button at the bottom of the screen. If you want to manually delete memories<\/strong>, you just have to press the trash can icon located next to each memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you want to erase memories on the go while chatting<\/strong>, you will need to let ChatGPT know with phrases like “Forget all the information from this chat”. And if you want to erase everything, just click on the Erase ChatGPT Memory<\/strong> option and the chatbot will forget about you completely.<\/p>\n\n\n

The ChatGPT Memory function is currently only available to a small group of users as a test, and it is unknown when it will be widely released for everyone<\/strong>.
