The trailer is quite explicit and brutal for a world premiere, and it takes its time to introduce the two protagonists of the game. One is the samurai Yasuke, an African man who became a servant in the service of the Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga.

The second protagonist is Naoe, a shinobi character whose opposition to Nobunaga’s war initially pits her against Yasuke. It was rumored that Shadows would feature two main characters, similar to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and prior to the official trailer reveal, leaked images of the game showed the samurai / shinobi protagonists.
