Google<\/strong> has started implementing a new extension of YouTube Music<\/strong> for its chatbot Gemini<\/strong>, allowing users to ask the chatbot to play songs from YouTube Music<\/strong>. This functionality includes searching and playing music by song, playlist, artist, and more. The development of the extension was announced at Google I\/O 2024<\/a><\/strong>, highlighting Google’s ongoing effort to improve Gemini’s compatibility with YouTube Music.<\/p>\n\n\n

The YouTube Music extension can be activated by requesting Gemini to search or play music from the platform<\/strong>. After this, Gemini will automatically provide the necessary instructions on screen to add the extension. Another way to activate the extension is by going to Settings > Extensions and activating the YouTube Music button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This integration allows Gemini to access users’ personal data from YouTube Music<\/a>, such as playlists, watch history, and favorite songs<\/strong>. This makes it easier to execute commands like “Play music I like”, “Activate white noise on @YouTube Music”, and “Show some rock music”. In addition, Google has listed various examples of instruction formats<\/strong> that users can use to interact with Gemini:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a support document discovered by 9to5Google<\/a><\/strong>, the integration of YouTube Music with Gemini is not available in the Google Messages app<\/strong> and currently only works with messages in English. In addition, the extension updates users’ viewing history based on their YouTube Music preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a query is made to play music on an iOS device, Gemini displays a title card with the song name, artist, duration, and number of streams<\/strong>. On Android devices, the song starts playing in the background, while on iOS, the YouTube Music app opens automatically. For users using the web version, clicking on the card is required to open the YouTube Music website.<\/p>\n\n\n
