The story of the metal giant and his friendship with the protagonist, a boy named Hogarth Hughes, is one of the most beautiful personal relationships in science fiction cinema since E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and it’s something that doesn’t go unnoticed by the audience. Those who grew up with The Iron Giant know that the values it teaches are incredible. But the truth is that the movie is much more than that.

Released in an era dominated by animated productions from big studios like Disney and Pixar, The Iron Giant presented itself as a brave and independent alternative from Warner, facing commercial and critical challenges of the moment. And it showed: initially it was not a big box office success, but over time it has acquired a cult status, being recognized for its emotional depth and pacifist message.

Based on the homonymous novel by Ted Hughes, a classic of the genre, the film addresses profound themes such as friendship, identity, and war, offering a reflection on human nature and the capacity to choose between good and evil. Additionally, it stood out for its innovative combination of traditional animation and CGI, achieving a visual aesthetic that, while respectful of the classic style, introduced new techniques and effects that were later used in great achievements like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Undoubtedly, it is a great moment to rediscover it or, if you have never been able to watch it, do it for the first time.
