This is approximately equivalent to 500,000 trees, as explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/article\/2024\/aug\/22\/trees-cut-down-site-tesla-gigafactory-germany-deforestation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"The Guardian\">The Guardian<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since May, climate activists have been protesting against the planned expansion of the gigafactory, occupying tree houses in a nearby camp and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/video\/2024\/may\/10\/germany-police-clash-with-hundreds-of-climate-protesters-trying-to-storm-tesla-plant-video\">attempting to storm the facilities<\/a>. he said. &#8220;We must prevent further expansion and, therefore, further destruction of the forests and endangerment of the protected drinking water area.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Halff, <strong>the lost trees amount to about 13,000 tons of <sub>CO2<\/sub>, the annual amount emitted by 2,800<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/greenvehicles\/greenhouse-gas-emissions-typical-passenger-vehicle#:~:text=typical%20passenger%20vehicle%3F-,A%20typical%20passenger%20vehicle%20emits%20about%204.6%20metric%20tons%20of,8%2C887%20grams%20of%20CO2.\">average internal combustion engine cars<\/a> in the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Flying Through Giga Berlin\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7-4yOx1CnXE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
