Anthropic will be the first model to be added, followed by Google&#8217;s Gemini in a few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thomas Dohmke<\/strong>, CEO of GitHub, justified to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/10\/29\/githubs-copilot-goes-multi-model-and-adds-support-for-anthropics-claude-and-googles-gemini\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">TechCrunch<\/a> this expansion in access to different models as <strong>a way to offer more options to developers<\/strong>, thus avoiding an exclusive dependency on OpenAI. Although some analysts see this as a maneuver by Microsoft to reduce that dependency, Dohmke prefers to frame it from the perspective of flexibility, highlighting that \u201cnot all models excel at all tasks.\u201d By offering various models, <strong>GitHub responds to the different needs of developers<\/strong>, who may require specific models for certain languages or tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/GitHub-Copilot.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270183\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe truly believe that the era of a single model is over,\u201d stated Dohmke. The CEO also explained that <strong>GitHub Copilot already used different versions of GPT-3 and GPT-4 depending on the latency and accuracy required<\/strong>.
