WhatsApp<\/strong> is testing a new feature that will allow users to verify the authenticity of received images, helping to combat misinformation and fake news. Thanks to this new tool, users will be able to access Google’s reverse image search directly from the app<\/strong>, thus being able to search for evidence of possible image manipulations.<\/p>\n\n\n

The feature, discovered by WABetaInfo<\/strong><\/a> in the beta version 2.24.23.13 for Android, is not yet available on iOS<\/strong>. To use it, users simply need to open an image in a chat, select the options menu, and click on \u201csearch the web.\u201d This option uses Google’s technology to find similar images and, in some cases, provide additional context, although it does not always guarantee detailed results<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

WhatsApp will notify users the first time they use the tool, informing them that, although the function shares the processed images with Google, it maintains the privacy commitment of WhatsApp, which protects their chats with end-to-end encryption<\/strong>. Currently, this functionality is in beta phase, and its widespread release is expected in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n
