At Rockstar, they no longer know how to tell you that they don’t want to be your friends. The studio has created a gigantic community of players through its successful Grand Theft Auto (GTA) installments, which has encouraged the creation of a variety of mods by users. However, this popularity has led the company to make drastic decisions regarding the protection of its intellectual properties, as was recently evidenced with the shutdown of the Liberty City Preservation Project. This ambitious project, which promised to transfer the famous city from GTA IV to the graphics engine of the latest game in the saga, was stopped by Rockstar, citing unauthorized licenses.

Obbe Vermeij, former Rockstar developer, has commented on social media about these company moves, stating that “Take-Two/Rockstar are a commercial company” and that they will act against mods that interfere with their economic interests. This comment reflects the expected stance of a company looking to protect its products and market, especially with the imminent arrival of GTA 6, scheduled for this year.

The release of GTA 6 is anticipated as one of the most significant events of the current generation of video games, with analysts predicting a considerable impact on the market. However, there are already concerns regarding the game’s price; some experts warn that a cost of 100 euros could be a serious commercial mistake for Rockstar, suggesting that such a decision could alienate the player base.
