While the features themselves are useful, it’s the more than 30 critical security fixes that truly set this release apart.

Major security threats have been patched

Apple has addressed a wide range of vulnerabilities, including flaws affecting Bluetooth, Notes, and the new C1 modem on the iPhone 16e. One particularly concerning issue, CVE-2025-31212, could allow apps to access sensitive Bluetooth data. Another flaw, CVE-2025-31227, made it possible for attackers to retrieve deleted call recordings via physical access to the device. And for iPhone 16e users, the baseband vulnerability (CVE-2025-31214) could be exploited to intercept network traffic by attackers in privileged positions.

It’s not just for the iPhone

The same update applies to iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches, with Apple releasing macOS Sequoia 15.5 and watchOS 15.5 simultaneously. Each of these brings additional fixes, reinforcing your entire ecosystem against attacks. Delaying updates on any of these devices can leave entry points open to hackers.

Updates are your first line of defense

Even though Apple’s devices are known for their security, they are not immune. Zero-day exploits often target high-profile users, but once exposed, those vulnerabilities are weaponized against everyone else. Installing updates quickly is the most effective way to stay ahead.

If your iPhone hasn’t been updated yet, now is the time. The risks of staying on older versions far outweigh any reason to postpone.

Apple’s latest software update, iOS 18.5, may not seem revolutionary at first glance, but beneath its modest surface lies a powerful reason to install it immediately.
