Skype keeps a record of your recent calls and instant messages. This can be useful if you want to pick up on a previous conversation with someone but you might be worried about your Skype activity being seen by someone else.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not always obvious how to clear your chat history in Skype though, and often the feature is well hidden. So, here\u2019s a guide to how to erase call and message logs in Skype for all the major systems:<\/p>\n

Delete chat history in Skype for Windows<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1. Access recent chats<\/h3>\n

Skype for Windows<\/a> keeps a record of your most recent text and voice chats, which you can view by choosing \u2018Recent<\/strong>\u2019 from the \u2018View<\/strong>\u2019 menu.<\/p>\n

2. View recent conversations<\/h3>\n

You most recent chats are displayed in the left-hand side bar and information about the conversation can be retrieved just by clicking on the contact\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

3. Delete chat history<\/h3>\n

To delete your conversation history in Skype, go to \u2018Options<\/strong>\u2019 and highlight the \u2018Privacy<\/strong>\u2019 tab. In the \u2018Keep history for<\/strong>\u2019 section you can remove the log by clicking the \u2018Clear history<\/strong>\u2019 button. Here, you can also choose how long you want Skype to keep your chat history for. You can select \u2018None<\/strong>\u2019 and the application will never save recent conversations.<\/p>\n

4. Hide individual conversations<\/h3>\n

If you only want to wipe a particular exchange in your history you can do this by right-clicking on the contact\u2019s name in the \u2018Recent<\/strong>\u2019 sidebar then choosing \u2018Hide conversation<\/strong>\u2019. You can unhide conversations again by going to \u2018Show hidden conversations<\/strong>\u2019 in the \u2018View<\/strong>\u2019 menu.<\/p>\n

Delete chat history in Skype for Android<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1. Access recent chats<\/h3>\n

Click on the \u2018Recent\u2019<\/strong> icon on the main screen of Skype for Android to access your chat log. An indicator on this icon shows you how much new activity is in the list since you last checked.<\/p>\n

A list of all recent call and IM activity will now be displayed, along with information about the call, or an excerpt of the text message.<\/p>\n

To delete a conversation, long-press on the contacts name in the history window and choose \u2018Close conversation<\/strong>\u2019 in the menu that pops up. You need to delete each individual chat record separately.<\/p>\n

Recent call history in the iOS version of Skype is displayed in the Messages tab, which you\u2019ll find along the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

You can delete a conversation in Skype for iPhone simply by holding your finger on the contact name and swiping to the left. A \u2018Delete<\/strong>\u2019 button will appear and you can press this to wipe it off the log.<\/p>\n

3. Alternative method<\/h3>\n

You can also remove chat records by clicking the \u2018Edit<\/strong>\u2019 button within messages. Here you can toggle the Delete button using the stop sign icons. Don\u2019t be fooled: it looks like you can delete individual messages but you can\u2019t. You still need to mark and delete each record individually.<\/p>\n

Delete chat history in Skype for Mac<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Your recent Skype chats appear in the sidebar of the interface, underneath the contacts list. You can remove recent chat history and delete conversations in Skype for Mac by going to the \u2018Conversations<\/strong>\u2019 menu and choosing \u2018Delete conversation<\/strong>\u2019 (will remove the entire conversation) or \u2018Clear Recent<\/strong>\u2019 (will hide the details of the conversation in the Recent menu.<\/p>\n
