It is a photographic technique that aims to <strong>capture a wider range of lights and shadows<\/strong> than what a camera can normally record in a single shot. This is achieved through the &#8220;merging&#8221; of different photos with different exposures of the same scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to HDR technique, we will have correctly exposed photographs in both light and darkness. For example, imagine a place with a very bright sky and a foreground in shadow. If you expose for the sky, the ground will be very dark, but if you expose for the ground, the sky will be blown out. HDR solves this <strong>by combining different exposures to create a more balanced photograph.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/photoshop-lightroom.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400129\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: Adobe Blog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prepare your HDR photos in Adobe Lightroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before getting into stronger adjustments, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop-lightroom.html?sdid=MH16S9GP&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;clickref=1100lBBat6Xe&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;mv2=pz&amp;as_camptype=&amp;as_channel=affiliate&amp;as_source=partnerize&amp;as_campaign=softonic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Lightroom \">Lightroom <\/a> is the ideal starting point to <strong>organize and edit your HDR photos<\/strong>. To do this, we first need to open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop-lightroom.html?sdid=MH16S9GP&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;clickref=1100lBBat6Xe&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;mv2=pz&amp;as_camptype=&amp;as_channel=affiliate&amp;as_source=partnerize&amp;as_campaign=softonic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Lightroom \">Lightroom <\/a> and add our captures from the camera:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Connect your camera or your card to the computer. Then, select the <strong>Add Photos<\/strong> option that you will find in the upper left corner next to the &#8220;<strong>+<\/strong>&#8221; symbol. You can also click on <strong>File &gt; Add Photos&#8230;<\/strong> If you want to open photos that you already have on your PC, the procedure you will need to follow is the same.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/photoshop-lightroom2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400134\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you have selected them, click on <strong>Review for Import<\/strong>. Doing so will show you a preview of the chosen photographs. To import them to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop-lightroom.html?sdid=MH16S9GP&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;clickref=1100lBBat6Xe&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;mv2=pz&amp;as_camptype=&amp;as_channel=affiliate&amp;as_source=partnerize&amp;as_campaign=softonic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Lightroom \">Lightroom <\/a>make sure they are selected and that <strong>the blue checkmark symbol<\/strong> appears in the upper left corner. Finally, click on <strong>Add (&#8230;) Photos.<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/photoshop-lightroom3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400155\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When adding photos, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop-lightroom.html?sdid=MH16S9GP&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;clickref=1100lBBat6Xe&amp;mv=affiliate&amp;mv2=pz&amp;as_camptype=&amp;as_channel=affiliate&amp;as_source=partnerize&amp;as_campaign=softonic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Lightroom \">Lightroom <\/a>is capable of<strong> detecting duplicates<\/strong> if there are any. On the <strong>Import<\/strong> screen, you will see a warning with the text <strong>Previously Added <\/strong>over the thumbnails of the images you have already added. Remember to<strong> import your images in RAW format<\/strong> for easier editing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photos are already added, now it&#8217;s time to get to work. To achieve the HDR effect correctly, you need to have at least <strong>three photographs with the same framing and different exposures.<\/strong> Lightroom has the <strong>Merge to HDR<\/strong> option, which combines several photos to create one in HDR and also allows us to edit them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, we will activate <strong>HDR Output<\/strong>. We will need to select <strong>Develop &gt; Basics &gt; HDR<\/strong>. If you want it to be active by default, click on <strong>Edit &gt; Preferences &gt; Presets.<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perfect your HDR photographs in Photoshop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After merging our photos to create the HDR image, it&#8217;s time to continue refining details in Photoshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From Lightroom, select your finished HDR image and right-click to choose <strong>Edit in Photoshop.<\/strong> Next, you will see a box where Lightroom will inform you that you should <strong>keep the program open while editing in Photoshop<\/strong>. Finally, you will need to close the photo in Photoshop for the changes to update in Lightroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/photoshop-lightroom4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400162\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the great advantages of Photoshop is that it allows you to <strong>work in layers<\/strong>. This means you can alter the image without needing to change the original. You can, for example, add <strong>adjustment layers<\/strong> to modify exposure, curves, hue, or saturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To add an adjustment layer in Photoshop, go to the <strong>Layers<\/strong> panel and click on the symbol that resembles a crescent moon, as shown in the image.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2025\/10\/photoshop-lightroom5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400165\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By doing so, you will see a large list of adjustments. In case we wanted to change the colors, for example, we would click on <strong>Color Balance<\/strong>. For brightness and contrast, it would be <strong>Brightness\/Contrast<\/strong>.
