Since their first appearance in the Star Wars saga, the image of the Stormtroopers has been etched in the collective memory of movie and pop culture fans. However, their famous aim, or lack thereof, has been the subject of mockery for decades. A curious detail is that Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, hinted at the reason behind this ineptitude in an improvised line from the original movie.

This line, “I can’t see anything with this helmet on!”, was spoken by Hamill in a scene where he and Han Solo disguise themselves as Stormtroopers. Although it was not part of the script written by George Lucas, his spontaneous interpretation was well received, and the director decided to keep it in the final version of the film. This phrase suggests that the design of the Stormtrooper helmet could be significantly limiting their visibility and, therefore, their ability to shoot accurately.
