Bethesda\u2019s Todd Howard says Marvel\u2019s Blade<\/a> is still happening, and that Arkane Lyon is \u201cdoing a really, really good job<\/strong>\u201d with it.<\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s a meaningful update because Marvel\u2019s Blade has been quiet for a while<\/strong>. Since its reveal at The Game Awards 2023, it\u2019s mostly disappeared from view. It also didn\u2019t show up at a recent Xbox showcase, and after a stretch with so little news, people had started wondering if the game was in trouble, or worse, at risk of cancellation. Those concerns didn\u2019t come out of nowhere either. Microsoft\u2019s gaming division has had a rough run lately, including the closure of Arkane Austin.<\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s what Bethesda and Arkane Lyon said back when Marvel\u2019s Blade was announced at The Game Awards 2023: Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2<\/a> and Deathloop<\/a>, and co-developer of the original Dishonored, is making a third-person, single-player<\/strong> action-adventure set in a quarantined part of Paris. On paper alone, that makes Marvel\u2019s Blade a very interesting project.<\/p>\n\n

Arkane Lyon has built its reputation on first-person immersive sims, smart level design, and combat systems that let players approach situations their own way. Even with that track record, there\u2019s still a lot we haven\u2019t seen. There\u2019s no release window yet<\/strong>, no gameplay footage, and no real sense of how much of that Arkane design DNA will carry over to Marvel\u2019s Blade.<\/p>\n\n

So if you\u2019ve been worried about Marvel\u2019s Blade, this is at least encouraging<\/strong>. Still, a reassuring comment from Todd Howard only goes so far in AAA development, where projects can shift quickly, and in Marvel\u2019s current games slate, which also includes Wolverine<\/a>, Iron Man<\/a>, and the Captain America\/Black Panther game.<\/p>\n\n
