The pitch is bigger than “here’s a model for researchers.” Anthropic is framing it as a scientific workbench built around Claude, a place where literature review, hypothesis generation, analysis, figure creation, manuscript writing, and publishing all sit together. For now, the focus is on life sciences and scientific computing.

That matters if your day usually gets split across PubMed, Jupyter or R, cluster terminals, and whatever tool you use to draft papers. Claude Science is supposed to pull that workflow back into one workspace instead of scattering it across four or five windows.

Anthropic says the product connects to more than 60 databases and tools covering genomics, proteomics, structural biology, and cheminformatics. Early testers include Manifold Bio, Jerome Lecoq at the Allen Institute, and Stephen Francis at the University of California, San Francisco. They’ve used it for single-cell RNA-seq, CRISPR screen design, protein structure prediction, and cheminatics work, so for anyone looking for software that actually speaks the language of these fields, this one looks like a serious download.

On reproducibility, Anthropic says you can inspect the code, the environment, the message history, and plain-English explanations of what the system is doing. There’s also a review tool that flags citation mistakes and calculation errors. Data is meant to stay on enterprise laptops, Linux machines, or HPC login nodes, with only the relevant context sent to Claude.

Claude Science is live now, landing in the middle of a broader push from Google, Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold, and Anthropic’s own biotech work, including Coefficient Bio. Forecasts for the market put it above $8 billion in 2025 and as high as $47 billion by 2034. Even so, the usual problems haven’t gone away: fabricated citations, bias, hard-to-audit reasoning, thin benchmarking, and the risk that more automation chips away at both jobs and research quality.

Anthropic has put Claude Science into public beta, and it’s available now.
