A joint statement and the court filings show that Christopher Barrett has settled his lawsuit with Bungie and Sony over his 2024 firing, closing out a claim that had sought as much as $200 million<\/strong>. The terms, including any payout, haven’t been disclosed, but both sides said Barrett’s 25 years at Bungie are being recognized, and his name has been added to Marathon<\/a>‘s credits as original Game Director. Barrett said he’s “very satisfied” with the outcome and can now turn to the next chapter of his gaming career.<\/p>\n

In his lawsuit, Barrett argued that the firing was a way to avoid paying out tens of millions<\/strong> in vested stock and bonuses connected to Sony’s $3.6 billion deal for Bungie. He also said he was turned into a scapegoat for broader business and reputation problems. Bungie and Sony took the opposite position, saying Barrett was fired for cause after an internal investigation into alleged inappropriate behavior involving female employees.<\/p>\n\n

For people who follow Bungie or Sony, the settlement clears away one of the bigger legal disputes hanging over a stretch that already included layoffs in 2023 and 2024, reported cuts tied to Destiny<\/a> and Marathon, and Sony’s fiscal 2025 impairment loss of 766 million<\/strong> linked to weaker performance from Destiny 2<\/a> and Marathon.<\/p>\n\n
