Putting Xbox games on PlayStation and Nintendo may lift software sales, but it also weakens the argument for buying an Xbox console at all. He also makes the case that exclusives still matter, even if they don’t make up most of the business. During PlayStation’s strongest years, first-party games accounted for about 22% of the market, while roughly 80% came from third-party publishers such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Activision, Take-Two, Bandai Namco, and Sega.

If you follow Xbox closely, this is where the tension shows. Microsoft has already brought Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, while keeping Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution on Xbox and PC. And all of this is happening with slower Game Pass growth, confusion among partners, and the 2026 layoffs in the background. The argument is likely to keep circling the same four names: Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo.

        Steam
        Download

        <text class="rating-score__number" content="" text-anchor="middle" transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 25 31.0837)" data-auto="app-user-score"></text>

Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden has taken fresh aim at Xbox’s strategy, saying Microsoft needs to decide whether it wants to be a console platform or a publisher.
