Customs data puts integrated circuit exports at $177.28 billion, up 96% from a year earlier, with volume reaching 179.44 billion units. But the more revealing detail is the gap between value growth and shipment growth. Export value climbed much faster than unit volume, and at roughly $1 per chip, the mix still looks tilted toward lower-end and mid-range semiconductors: memory, power-management chips, microcontrollers, and chips that were packaged or otherwise processed in China before being sent back out, not leading-edge processors.

        CPU-Z
        Download

        <text class="rating-score__number" content="" text-anchor="middle" transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 25 31.0837)" data-auto="app-user-score"></text>

The same pattern showed up in early 2026. China’s customs data had export value up 72.6% while volume rose 13.7%. That looks less like a comparable jump in output and more like price inflation. Memory seems to be doing most of the work here. Demand for high-performance computing hardware went up, while Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron shifted capacity toward high-bandwidth memory. That left conventional memory tighter and pushed prices higher across the sector.

If you follow semiconductors, this is a number worth paying attention to. Still, it needs to be read with some care. China’s customs data likely counts chips packaged or re-exported through China. And electronics exports were strong more broadly. Computer equipment and parts, including computers and servers, rose 41.3% to $138.1 billion in the same customs figures.

You can read this surge as the result of a market being reshaped by US restrictions on chip sales and manufacturing tools, Beijing’s push for self-sufficiency, and a supply chain that’s being rerouted. It’s not proof that China has closed the gap in leading-edge technology.

        Speccy
        Download

        <text class="rating-score__number" content="" text-anchor="middle" transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 25 31.0837)" data-auto="app-user-score"></text>

China’s chip export numbers for the first half of 2026 look huge at first glance.
