By grossing $124.5 million in its first weekend, it has broken records for a film rated for ages 18 and up<\/strong>. What’s more, it’s a personal record for Nolan himself, since it’s his best opening since 2012, when The Dark Knight Rises made $160 million in its first weekend. That said, it remains far behind the year’s two blockbusters. Toy Story 5, the current leader, made $159 million and Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie was close behind, with a hefty $131 million<\/strong>. Though with a more family-friendly profile, both films had a clear advantage over Nolan’s.<\/p>\n

It even surpassed The Dark Knight Rises, which grossed $249 million worldwide, unadjusted for inflation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

With stellar reviews, but also harsh accusations from the FiSahara Film Festival, which is calling for a boycott of the film for having shot part of the movie in the territory of Western Sahara occupied by Morocco, the film is sparking strong reactions.
