Along the way, the Sirens turn up as river washerwomen, the Cyclops becomes a one-eyed Bible salesman, and the South makes room for Baby Face Nelson and Tommy Johnson right alongside myth and folklore.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s a big part of why <em>O Brother, Where Art Thou?<\/em> still works. It feels playful, rooted in a real place, and somehow outside of time too. The film gets at <strong>the spirit<\/strong> of <em>The Odyssey<\/em> without trying to duplicate every plot point or period detail.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also works <strong>perfectly well<\/strong> on its own terms.
