Cavill remains attached to star in the adaptation and executive produce it as part of Amazon’s Warhammer screen slate with Games Workshop and United Artists.

That same wave of reporting, again including Games Workshop’s 2025-2026 annual report, suggests Flanagan’s involvement may already be further along than the usual “in talks” phrasing makes it sound. The project also seems to be edging forward creatively: early story outlines are reportedly finished, and scripting is expected to come next. So there’s movement, just probably on a years-long clock rather than a months-long one.

Flanagan makes sense here. His work keeps returning to horror, faith, and grief, and those themes sit pretty naturally inside Warhammer 40,000’s grimdark blend of cosmic dread, fanaticism, and humanity in collapse. Amazon still has the harder job ahead, though: taking that dense lore, all those factions, and the setting’s heavy world-building, then making it clear enough for newcomers without shaving off the parts long-time fans actually care about.

If you follow Warhammer 40,000, this is one to keep an eye on. Games Workshop’s wider film and TV push reportedly also includes an animated Deathwatch project, plus a Warhammer: Age of Sigmar installment in season 2 of Secret Level. The company’s 2025-2026 annual report also points to strong brand growth, with game hits like Space Marine 2 and Rogue Trader helping keep that momentum up.

The Warhammer 40,000 series is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios with Games Workshop and United Artists for Amazon’s Warhammer screen slate.

Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Warhammer 40,000 series is still moving ahead, and the latest reports, including Games Workshop’s 2025-2026 annual report, say Mike Flanagan is in talks to executive produce alongside Henry Cavill.
