Samsung and SK Hynix, South Korea\u2019s two big memory suppliers, are reportedly shifting toward three- to five-year supply contracts<\/strong> for DRAM and HBM. Reports are calling it one of the biggest changes the memory market has seen in years. Rather than leaning on short-term pricing, both companies seem to be trying to lock in revenue , soften the usual boom-and-bust cycles, and give investors a clearer picture if demand starts to top out.<\/p>\n\n

A lot of this comes back to HBM<\/strong>, the higher-margin memory paired with data-center accelerators. Market forecasts put the HBM market at about $3 billion in 2025 and say it could reach $9.84 billion by 2030. As that business grows, more manufacturing capacity is being pushed in that direction, which could leave less room for standard DRAM.<\/p>\n

Some reports say that, over time, 60% to 70%<\/strong> of Samsung\u2019s DRAM and NAND output could fall under long-term contracts. Those deals may also come with deposits in the 10% to 30% range , plus minimum-price clauses that make walking away costly.<\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019re buying gaming PCs, laptops, or even phones, this matters. Less DRAM available on the spot market could keep prices firmer, especially for smaller hardware companies. For now, expect tighter supply<\/a><\/strong> and more pressure, since SK Hynix still has to split its capacity between next-generation HBM and traditional DRAM output.<\/p>\n
