That means a southern Middle-earth<\/strong> expansion for Free League\u2019s award-winning RPG, pushing the map past the ground covered in earlier material. It also fits what makes this game stand out in the first place: journeys, fellowship, hope, and the pull of shadow matter just as much as combat and treasure.<\/p>\n\n

Free League had more than one announcement at Gen Con. The publisher also revealed Creatures Strange and Foul<\/strong>, a revised core rulebook, a BackerKit launch planned for September 2026, the expected Collector\u2019s Editions, and two 5E companion books called Realms of the South and Of Orcs and Evil Things.<\/p>\n\n

If you’re after a Middle-earth game that stays close to J.R.R. Tolkien<\/strong>, this looks worth picking up. Francesco Nepitello is still guiding the line with the same lore-faithful approach, built around original adventures rather than world-breaking heroics, and that choice has gone a long way toward building such a loyal following.<\/p>\n\n

You’ll be able to follow the project on BackerKit<\/strong> in September 2026, and the timing makes sense. Interest in Tolkien is rising again across games, The Hunt for Gollum<\/a>, The Rings of Power Season 3, and a new open-world RPG.<\/p>\n
