Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit a new live-action RoboCop series for Prime Video<\/a>. And if you\u2019ve seen a December 2026<\/strong> date floating around online, that doesn\u2019t seem to be tied to the show at all. That date appears to belong to a life-size RoboCop helmet replica, not a movie release or series premiere, and Amazon MGM Studios still hasn\u2019t given the series an official debut date.<\/p>\n

What has been confirmed is the shape of the project. Amazon says the show will run for eight episodes<\/strong>, with Peter Ocko attached as writer and showrunner. James Wan is executive producing through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and 1987 RoboCop co-creators Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are involved too, which gives this reboot a pretty direct line back to the original.<\/p>\n\n

The premise sounds familiar in the way you\u2019d expect: a tech conglomerate turns a fallen cop into a cyborg police officer. At the same time, reports have suggested the central character might be soldier Marc Kyle<\/strong> instead of Alex Murphy, with Murphy possibly showing up in a mentor role. None of that has been confirmed. There\u2019s no cast yet, either, and the January 2027 filming start has only come up as a rumor.<\/p>\n\n

If you care about RoboCop, this is one to keep an eye on. The strong response to RoboCop: Rogue City<\/a> helped put some wind back in the franchise, and the reaction so far has been cautiously optimistic, especially after the sequels and the 2014 RoboCop remake landed to a much more mixed response.
