OpenAI updated ChatGPT<\/a> today with a version for teens ages 13 to 17. Eligible accounts will get it automatically in the existing ChatGPT app and on the web as the rollout reaches more users.<\/p>\n

This teen version puts stricter limits<\/strong> on romantic or emotionally intense conversations, cuts back on replies that make ChatGPT sound like it has feelings, and adds stronger protections around mental health, body image, self-harm, and other sensitive subjects. It also includes parental quiet hours, safety alerts for high-risk chats involving things like self-harm or eating disorders, and a new Study Mode<\/a> that guides students through schoolwork step by step rather than handing over the answer. Pew Research Center says a little over half of U.S. teens have used chatbots for schoolwork, and 12% have used them for emotional support.<\/p>\n\n

If a teen in your house uses ChatGPT a lot, this is probably an update you\u2019ll want<\/strong>. Still, ChatGPT shouldn\u2019t be treated like a counselor, teacher, parent, or friend.
