Creators and tech analysts have been saying much the same thing, arguing it still doesn’t feel as sharp as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022).

Performance is the other obvious trouble spot. Low frame rates, stuttering, hitching, and uneven results across different hardware are still coming up regularly.

The background shader pre-load could end up being one of the more helpful PC fixes, since it should cut down those long shader-compiling waits and smooth out the shaky first part of a session, even if the broader beta reaction is still mixed on audio, spawns, attachments, footstep audio, map voting, weapon balance, bug fixes, and possibly skill-based matchmaking.

If you play Call of Duty on PC, this patch is probably worth grabbing for the shader and mouse changes alone, even though the beta doesn’t seem to have the same momentum on streaming and social platforms as earlier entries, and Activision still hasn’t officially confirmed any title called Modern Warfare 4.

You can get the current beta build on PC through the usual Call of Duty beta channels.

Activision says today’s update for the latest Call of Duty PC beta focuses on broader PC settings, better mouse input, and shader pre-loading that now happens in the background.
