Spotify said on August 25, 2026, that its audiobook outage had been resolved and told users to update to the latest version of the Spotify app<\/a>. The company had acknowledged the issue earlier that same day and later marked it as fixed. Even so, some listeners are still saying certain books won’t play, downloads are failing, and one bug is causing chapters to skip by at high speed instead of playing normally.<\/p>\n

Spotify still hasn’t said what caused the problem. And because it doesn’t have a dedicated public status page, there’s no easy way to tell whether this audiobook outage came from a server issue<\/strong>, a software bug, or something tied to licensing or content delivery. That matters if you use Spotify for audiobooks. Spotify rolled out audiobooks in the U.S. in September 2022 as part of its push beyond music and podcasts and into more direct competition with Audible<\/a>, where reliability turns into a trust problem fast.<\/p>\n\n

The outage also adds to a point of friction that Spotify Premium users already deal with, since Premium only includes a limited number of listening hours each month, and extra time costs more<\/a><\/strong> through paid top-ups. If you use the service regularly, it’s probably a good idea to install the update, then reload your library and see whether the affected titles will now play or download again in the latest Spotify app on your device.<\/p>\n
