The Fast and the Furious, the 2001 street-racing movie that kicked off Universal\u2019s Fast & Furious franchise<\/a>, is getting a 25th-anniversary disc<\/strong> and digital edition on August 25, 2026. So if you want to revisit it at home, there\u2019s your date, exactly 25 years after it first hit theaters. That same day also brings a newly remastered 4K Ultra HD version with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, along with a retrospective featuring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, producer Neal Moritz, and Meadow Walker. That last piece gives the release a more personal tie to Paul Walker\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

It also puts the focus back on Rob Cohen\u2019s original setup: undercover LAPD officer Brian O\u2019Conner working his way into Dominic Toretto\u2019s crew. This is the movie that started one of Universal\u2019s biggest franchises, and it still lands for a few pretty clear reasons. The stunt work feels physical in a way a lot of modern action movies don\u2019t. The early-2000s car scene is all over it. And Diesel and Walker had a chemistry<\/strong> that helped carry the whole thing, even if the reviews at the time were mixed.<\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019re into physical media, or you\u2019ve put real money<\/strong> into a home theater setup, this is the kind of release that makes sense to pick up. The timing helps, too. The 25th-anniversary campaign already brought The Fast and the Furious back to 1,500 theaters, where it pulled in about $3.1 million, and it also included reunion events in Cannes and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Fast Forever, the next Fast & Furious movie now on the schedule, is aiming to start production in December ahead of a planned March 17, 2028 release. You\u2019ll be able to get The Fast and the Furious on disc or digitally, with the 4K edition arriving August 25, 2026.<\/p>\n
