{"id":376072,"date":"2026-08-27T02:17:03","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T09:17:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/green-lanterns-forgotten-2011-game-already-featured-the-manhunters\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T02:17:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T09:17:17","slug":"green-lanterns-forgotten-2011-game-already-featured-the-manhunters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/green-lanterns-forgotten-2011-game-already-featured-the-manhunters\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Lantern\u2019s forgotten 2011 game already featured the Manhunters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters<\/em> came out on <strong>June 7, 2011<\/strong> as a tie-in to the movie, and it brought the Manhunters to mainstream DC fans years before HBO&#8217;s <em>Lanterns<\/em> did.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Set in the Ryan Reynolds <em>Green Lantern<\/em> film universe, the game puts you in control of <strong>Hal Jordan<\/strong> and makes the Manhunters the main threat, not Parallax.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The story picks up after the movie instead of running through it again, with the <strong>Manhunters<\/strong> returning to get revenge on the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lantern Corps.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reynolds also voices Hal Jordan and lends his likeness, so you were basically watching <strong>Ryan Reynolds&#8217; version<\/strong> of the character fight the Manhunters long before <em>Lanterns<\/em> paired Kyle Chandler&#8217;s Hal Jordan with Aaron Pierre&#8217;s John Stewart.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the gameplay, <em>Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters<\/em> keeps things pretty straightforward: action-adventure combat built around using the <strong>power ring<\/strong> to create hard-light constructs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HBO&#8217;s <em>Lanterns<\/em> seems to be taking the Manhunters in a very different direction, making them <strong>darker, more grounded,<\/strong> and more paranoid by turning them into shapeshifting synthetic aliens.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reviews were mixed at the time, but if you&#8217;re revisiting DC&#8217;s stranger corners ahead of <em>Lanterns<\/em>, this overlooked tie-in is still worth picking up for its <strong>unusual place<\/strong> in Green Lantern history.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can still look for <em>Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters<\/em> as that <strong>2011<\/strong> movie tie-in release.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters came out on June 7, 2011 as a tie-in to the movie, and it brought the Manhunters to mainstream DC fans years before HBO&#8217;s Lanterns did.
