We’ve been living through a wave of hacks and leaks lately in the world of video games. But the latest one targeted The Pok\u00e9mon Company instead<\/strong>. On August 27 the official Pok\u00e9mon Twitter<\/a> account was compromised for at least thirty minutes, and was controlled by an unknown attacker.<\/p>\n

A hack to sell memecoins<\/h2>\n\n

Taking advantage of this opportunity to impersonate the company and share a link announcing the launch of a Pok\u00e9mon-related memecoin, it’s unclear whether anyone was affected by this scam attempt. Either way, according to GoNintendo, Pok\u00e9mon is aware of what happened and said \u201cwe are aware that our X account was accessed without authorization and used to post messages promoting a cryptocurrency<\/strong>. Those posts were not created or approved by Pok\u00e9mon and have already been deleted\u201d.<\/p>\n\n

This reminds us of the importance of following basic online security practices. If a social media account starts behaving suspiciously or acting out of character, don’t share or engage with anything it posts<\/strong>.
