That makes it the DC Universe\u2019s first live-action stop in Gotham, and it\u2019s arriving as an R-rated body horror movie, not as an introduction to the new DCU Batman.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the first Gotham story in this continuity belongs to a villain. It follows Matt Hagen\u2019s transformation and shows the city through something <strong>tragic and grotesque<\/strong>, not through Batman, his allies, or his war on crime. It may also be James Gunn\u2019s clearest test so far of his promise that the DC Universe won\u2019t be locked into a single tone or genre.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s another reason this one matters. It could help set the feel of this Gotham before <em>The Brave and the Bold<\/em>. Matt Reeves\u2019 production company, <strong>6th &amp; Idaho<\/strong>, is producing. James Watkins is directing. Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini are writing. Clayface has already appeared in <em>Creature Commandos<\/em>, and there are still unconfirmed rumors about a possible connection to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/we-already-know-when-the-most-anticipated-dc-sequel-will-start-filming-and-it-will-take-longer-than-you-think\" rel=\"noopener\">The Batman Part II<\/a><\/em> and its Elseworlds continuity.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve been waiting for DC to make projects that lean fully into specific genres instead of squeezing everything into the usual superhero mold, keep an eye on this one.
