Microsoft announced Project Zenith for Windows 11<\/a> today. It\u2019s a preconfigured developer PC setup meant for running local models with more than 30 billion parameters. Microsoft says it\u2019s aimed at high-end systems with at least 64GB of unified memory<\/strong> and 250GB\/s of bandwidth, and it comes with Visual Studio Code<\/a>, Windows Terminal, GitHub Copilot, PowerShell 7, source-control tools, runtimes, and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) ready from day one.<\/p>\n

On the Windows 11 side, Microsoft says Zenith also flips on the settings developers usually change right away: visible file extensions, hidden files, full paths, the details pane, and long-path support. At the same time, it turns off recent items<\/strong>, sync tips, Start tips, and account notifications. The company is also promising OS-enforced identity for software agents, Microsoft Execution Containers, enterprise manageability, and WSL containers.<\/p>\n\n

If you want a Windows 11 machine that\u2019s already set up for serious local AI work, this looks appealing on convenience alone, and the security pitch helps too. Still, the 64GB minimum<\/strong>, the lack of independent benchmarks, open questions around rollout, and the nearly $3,999.99 price attached to an early AMD Ryzen Halo mini PC in early online hardware listings are all going to push people toward comparing it with unified-memory Macs and Nvidia\u2019s DGX Spark.<\/p>\n\n
