Its August 16, 2026 premiere reportedly drew more than 20 million viewers across the globe, and the audience has kept climbing week after week.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The episode&#8217;s major reveal involves Zoe Macon. Up to this point, she had been framed as John Stewart&#8217;s love interest and presumed dead after the <strong>satellite laser attack<\/strong>. Now she appears to be the Manhunter Hal Jordan and John Stewart have been tracking in Rushville, Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, <em>Lanterns<\/em> approaches DC more like <em>True Detective<\/em> than a cosmic superhero story. Episode 4 leans even further into that idea, using the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/the-new-true-crime-series-on-hbo-max-is-going-to-give-you-twist-after-twist-to-keep-surprising-you\" rel=\"noopener\">same kind of intimate betrayal<\/a><\/strong> that made HBO&#8217;s <em>Sharp Objects<\/em> hit as hard as it did.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everyone is fully on board with that combination. Some critics still think the show risks <strong>feeling torn between<\/strong> two identities, and some viewers suspect Zoe Macon&#8217;s unmasking may be a fake-out, since the season is only at its midpoint.
