The revival in development had Sarah Michelle Gellar set to return as Buffy Summers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong lined up as a new Slayer, and Oscar winner Chlo\u00e9 Zhao attached to direct the <strong>pilot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What people tend to forget is that <em>Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em> already got an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/neither-a-remake-nor-a-reboot-the-new-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-is-a-continuation-of-the-original\" rel=\"noopener\">official continuation<\/a>. Dark Horse Comics picked up the story from <strong>2007<\/strong> through 2018, running from <em>Season Eight<\/em> to <em>Season Twelve<\/em>, with Joss Whedon labeling it canon and several original show writers helping shape what happened after the TV finale in 2003.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if you\u2019ve been wondering what came next, that Dark Horse run is still worth picking up. For a lot of fans, it still feels like the franchise\u2019s fullest sequel: bigger battles, weirder monsters, magical dimensions, darker material, and Buffy Summers at the head of an <strong>army of Slayers<\/strong>, even if some readers thought it got too bizarre or lost some of the emotional grounding that made the show work.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That continuation is still there in Dark Horse Comics\u2019 comic seasons. Reports said Hulu\u2019s pilot didn\u2019t meet expectations because of creative differences, a possible tone mismatch for Chlo\u00e9 Zhao, and an executive Sarah Michelle Gellar said wasn\u2019t a fan of the original.
