In a LinkedIn statement, the Seattle studio behind Moss said it’s ending operations and “winding down active development.”

The studio was founded in 2015 by former Bungie developers Tam Armstrong, Danny Bulla, and Chris Alderson. Earlier in 2026, Polyarc laid off 30 employees after a major project was canceled and planned funding fell through. The full closure reportedly affects at least 29 more staff.

That ends a notable run. Moss, released in 2018, helped shape early VR storytelling and had sold more than 1 million copies by July 2021. Polyarc raised $3.5 million in 2016 and another $9 million in 2020 to explore AR, and the studio still couldn’t make it through a 2026 VR market where 88% of developers say audience reach is limited and 56% describe VR as stagnant or declining.

You can still get Moss: The Forgotten Relic outside VR. Polyarc’s closure lands as another bad sign for premium VR development.

Polyarc Games has shut down in 2026.
