SEGA and Netflix said today that they’ve signed a multi-title deal to adapt several SEGA properties into live-action films and animated projects.

The first batch starts with Crazy Taxi. It’s being turned into a live-action comedy, with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand on the script, the same pair behind the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun. Producers include Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara. SEGA and Netflix are lining it up with SEGA’s 2027 return to the series, Crazy Taxi: World Tour.

There’s also a new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series aimed at an “upper pre-school audience.” SEGA and Netflix called it high-energy, comedic, and emotionally grounded, and said it’s being developed with Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara. Netflix already has three exclusive seasons of Sonic Prime, so Sonic’s not exactly new to the platform.

The oddest choice here is Stranger Than Heaven. SEGA and Netflix are making it as a live-action crime film based on RGG Studio’s upcoming game. They said the story is set in early 20th-century Japan and follows a foreigner who climbs out of poverty and becomes both a yakuza figure and an entertainment tycoon, ahead of the game’s planned January 2027 launch.

If you pay attention to SEGA outside of games, this is the kind of move to keep an eye on, especially with the company continuing to keep both legacy series and newer franchises in circulation between releases.

You can’t watch any of it yet. Netflix hasn’t shared release dates, and neither company disclosed the financial terms of the deal.
