Square Enix’s official store has quietly pushed September 2026<\/strong> to October 2026, which more or less settles what this actually is: a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 9<\/a> 25th anniversary merch line, not the long-rumored remake a lot of people were hoping for. The store page still doesn’t list a specific release date, so there’s room for the schedule to move again.<\/p>\n

The artwork shows Kuja and the Silver Dragon inside the Lifa Tree, taking one of Final Fantasy 9’s late-game scenes<\/strong> and turning it into premium wall art, not a return trip to Gaia.<\/p>\n\n

That hasn’t killed remake talk. Those rumors have been floating around for years, with the 2021<\/strong> Nvidia GeForce Now<\/a> database leak keeping them alive, but Square Enix still hasn’t announced anything, and company executives have already said a Final Fantasy 9 remake could be an even bigger undertaking than Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Which helps explain why the reaction to Final Fantasy 9’s 25th anniversary has been so mixed. Fans have gotten merchandise, but no major game announcement, no remaster, and no remake, along with side projects like the reported Eurovisual animated series Final Fantasy: Black Mages Legacy and the Vivi children’s book Vivi And Grandpa’s Memories For The Sky. If you collect Final Fantasy 9 memorabilia, though, this is probably one to pick up.<\/p>\n\n
