Dragon Ball Super has, by this point, shifted its newest saga over to Gohan. Goku\u2019s eldest son<\/strong> isn\u2019t hanging around the edges anymore; he\u2019s at the center of the action.<\/p>\n

You can see it best in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Goku and Vegeta<\/a><\/strong> are pushed to the side, Gohan and Piccolo are the ones dealing with Earth\u2019s biggest threat, and Gohan\u2019s Beast transformation is presented as a real long-term jump in power, not another Cell Saga fake-out. This doesn\u2019t read like Gohan is just covering for Goku while he trains somewhere else. The current Dragon Ball Super arc is built around what Gohan\u2019s rise means, how important the Gohan-Piccolo partnership has become, and the fact that Gohan now looks like Earth\u2019s first line of defense.<\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019ve been waiting for Dragon Ball Super to actually commit to Gohan as Goku\u2019s successor<\/strong>, this is the shift to keep an eye on. Goku hasn\u2019t been removed from the story, he\u2019s still the franchise\u2019s global face, and he could easily move back to the front in a future arc.<\/p>\n\n

Still, that handoff comes through in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, in the manga adaptation, and in the ongoing Dragon Ball Super story. Right now<\/strong>, the series is making its strongest case yet that the torch really is being passed, even with Goku still around as part of the story instead of carrying it by himself.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
