Pluto TV just added the original Sailor Moon anime, so the full series is now streaming free with ads. You can start from episode one or jump straight to Sailor Moon R. Either way, it’s a real win for longtime fans and first-timers, since the 1992 series had already made its way to the US, Canada, and Latin America by 1995 and went on to become one of the biggest anime imports of the decade. For a lot of viewers, especially girls, it was the show that opened the door to anime fandom.

The premise is simple: Usagi Tsukino is a clumsy 14-year-old who finds out she’s Sailor Moon. What gives the show its staying power is the mix around that central idea, saving the world right alongside school, family, crushes, and friendship drama.

Sailor Moon didn’t invent the magical girl genre. What it did do was leave a mark through its team format, its distinct emotional arcs, and the way it handled queer relationships, villain complexity, and gender expression, especially with Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune.

If you’ve wanted to catch one of anime’s defining crossover hits on a mainstream free platform, this is a good chance to do it. Sailor Moon R matters in particular because it introduces Chibiusa and Black Lady, and because it begins Kunihiko Ikuhara’s co-directing run before Utena.

Pluto TV also has Adolescence of Utena free with ads ahead of GKIDS’ June 21-22, 2026 North American run.

You can watch Sailor Moon free with ads on Pluto TV.
