Lofi Girl briefly made its central character disappear, just long enough to get fans talking, and then came back with Lofi House, a new 24/7 YouTube livestream built around chill, melodic house with a clear jazz touch.

At the same time, the brand rolled out Julien Maison, also known as the Lofi Teacher. Lofi Girl describes him as a 30-year-old high-school biology teacher who looks out for his students and DJs after school, which gives the channel a different feel: less locked-in, solo study music, more music for winding down, hanging out, or staying up late with something on in the background.

It also pushes the format a little further than what you already got with 2023’s Synthwave Boy. That gives Lofi Records more space to lean into electronic and house sounds, and it pulls Lofi Girl past the idea of being just a productivity soundtrack and into something closer to a full mood and lifestyle world.

If Lofi Girl is part of your routine for more than homework, this one’s probably worth a look.

You can watch Lofi House on YouTube, and it arrives alongside a new 19-artist compilation and a vinyl pre-order from a brand that, according to Lofi Girl, started in 2015, switched to a 24/7 format in 2017, now pulls in 15.8 million subscribers and billions of views, reaches listeners across Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and Amazon Music, has put out 8,000 tracks from 500 artists across lofi, synthwave, jazz, and ambient, and also has its hands in animation, gaming, merch, and a Discord community with 970,000 members.
