Early charging tests suggest 60W wired charging for Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, up from roughly 40W on the iPhone 17 Pro generation, along with a redesigned cooling setup.

The same tests show the iPhone 18 Pro Max hitting 50% in about 15 minutes and reaching a full charge in 55 minutes. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max took roughly 20 minutes to get to 50% and about 81 minutes to fill up. Peak power draw also seems to climb to around 52W, versus 36W before, but only for the first 12 minutes. So 60W looks to be the upper limit, not the speed it holds the whole way through.

There’s a larger battery in the mix too: 5,391mAh on the physical-SIM version of Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max, up from 4,823mAh, while an eSIM version is said to reach 5,567mAh. And the cooling changes appear to be doing real work. A vapor chamber reportedly three times larger, paired with a 2nm A20 Pro positioned closer to it, helped the phone reach 44.3°C at 5.9W in a 30-minute stress test. That’s about a degree cooler than the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 5.4W, and cooler than the Vivo iQOO 15 Ultra at 47.2°C. That should make a difference in gaming and video editing.

If you upgrade your iPhone often, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max look worth picking up.

You’ll need a 60W-or-higher AVS-compatible adapter to get the fastest speeds, and it’s still smart to keep long-term battery health, along with regional or model differences, in mind.
