And to do it, he handpicked <strong>a battalion of \u201cspecial ambassadors\u201d who would make the movies he\u2019d like to see<\/strong>, like Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, or Sylvester Stallone. There was just one problem: not everyone wanted to.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stallone is not alone<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Stallone recalls, the news caught him completely by surprise: <em>\u201cI was watching television one night and they said \u2018So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be\u2026\u2019, and I said <strong>\u2018What? Excuse me? Really?\u2019<\/strong>. Because if they\u2019d asked me from the start, I would\u2019ve said it\u2019s impossible\u201d<\/em>. Imagine getting ready to go to sleep and realizing you\u2019re Hollywood\u2019s new ambassador in Trump\u2019s service.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason he didn\u2019t want to accept this \u201cpost\u201d wasn\u2019t necessarily ideological: <em>\u201cHollywood is like the feudal states. It has its little kingdoms. You don\u2019t go and tell six studios how to do things. And Mel and Jon, we\u2019re people who do our own thing\u201d.<\/em> Spoiler: <strong>to no one\u2019s surprise, this whole \u201cHollywood ambassadors\u201d thing ended up going nowhere<\/strong>. Once again.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, Stallone ended up calling Trump and telling him it wouldn\u2019t work: <em>\u201c<strong>I told him thanks, but no thanks, because it\u2019s impossible. Hollywood works, and it will always evolve<\/strong>. It\u2019s an industry, and the people in an industry don\u2019t want to hear me talk about finances\u201d<\/em>. Don\u2019t think this has anything to do with a rebellion against the president, because it\u2019s quite the opposite: he describes him as a \u201cmythological character\u201d.
