In their view, there’s less room to try a new weapon, mess around with an off-meta loadout, or just play relaxed games with friends who aren’t on the same skill level. Creators and high-skill players have been making the same case for a while now: they want more variety, clearer communication, and actual community tests instead of a system that feels hidden from the people playing under it.

Former Call of Duty developer Brian Bright has said that older matchmaking systems cared more about ping and region. Later versions, according to Bright, put more emphasis on skill, with data scientists and marketing involved in shaping that direction. Critics point to that as proof that public lobbies are now tuned more for engagement than for how the game actually feels match to match.

Activision tells a different story. The company says connection quality and time-to-match still matter a lot. It also says that when skill-based matchmaking was loosened, more players quit and retention dropped for lower-skill players. Supporters of SBMM say that kind of protection makes the game more welcoming. Opponents look at the same system and call it punishing.

Tdawgsmitty says the recent Destiny protests helped inspire the petition. He also says those protests were really more about Bungie’s support and the future of the series than about matchmaking itself.

If you play public Call of Duty, keep an eye on this one. You can read the petition online and sign it there too.

Tdawgsmitty just launched a new Call of Duty petition aimed at Activision.
