Marvel Comics has rolled out its current DNX<\/em> crossover, and it puts Magneto right in the middle of a messy moral standoff between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.<\/p>\n

The X-Men are trying to stop 3K\u2019s X-Virus<\/strong> from turning humans into mutants, but they\u2019re also scrambling to save Magneto after X-Men<\/em> #36. In that issue, Krakoa\u2019s Chairman Hank McCoy nearly killed Max Eisenhardt and took blood, cerebrospinal fluid, bone marrow, and other samples from him.<\/p>\n\n

Hank tells Reed Richards he can\u2019t completely fix Max Eisenhardt on his own, so he asks Reed to heal Magneto and give him his magnetic powers<\/strong> back. Reed won\u2019t go along easily. He thinks the world is safer if Magneto stays less than fully powered, and he argues that restoring him would make Reed partly responsible for whatever violence Magneto might commit later.<\/p>\n\n

Sue Storm is the one who breaks the stalemate. She forces a compromise, then makes it clear to both Hank McCoy and Magneto that this second chance<\/strong> comes with accountability.<\/p>\n\n

If you keep up with the X-Men on a regular basis, this crossover is one to pick up. It undercuts the growth Magneto showed during the Fall of X<\/em> period after his fights with Feilong, Orchis, and Nimrod. It also makes Reed Richards come off like he\u2019s still stuck on the worst version of Magneto<\/strong>, and it lays the groundwork for the bigger DNX<\/em> shifts writer Jed MacKay has been hinting at, possibly including Quentin Quire taking over Magneto\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n\n
