HBO\u2019s upcoming Harry Potter<\/em> TV series has cast Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. That gives the new adaptation its first official tie to the original Warner Bros. Harry Potter<\/em> films.<\/p>\n

Whitehouse is the first publicly announced cast member<\/strong> from the movie era confirmed to return. He previously played Sir Cadogan in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban<\/em>, though most of that role was cut from the theatrical release. This time, he\u2019s stepping into a much bigger part as Hogwarts\u2019 grumpy caretaker, the role fans remember from David Bradley.<\/p>\n\n

For longtime fans, the choice feels like a small but clear bridge between the two versions. HBO gets to make a fresh, more book-faithful<\/strong> long-form adaptation of J.K. Rowling\u2019s seven novels while still giving a nod to the Warner Bros. films, without depending on that connection too much.<\/p>\n\n

HBO says the series, which is planned to run for a decade<\/strong>, will go further into the books than the movies did. The cast announced so far includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell.
