It currently sits at No. 4, behind <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fuze.en.softonic.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Fuze<\/a><\/em>, <em>Supergirl<\/em>, and <em>Backrooms<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That kind of run says a lot about the <strong>staying power<\/strong> of a library title pushing 40 years old. For <a href=\"https:\/\/hbo.en.softonic.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">HBO<\/a> Max, it\u2019s another sign that a classic prestige film can still land like an event watch on audience interest alone.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you haven\u2019t gone back to <em>Full Metal Jacket<\/em> in a while, here\u2019s the quick reminder: Stanley Kubrick directed it and adapted it from Gustav Hasford\u2019s <em>The Short-Timers<\/em>. The film follows Matthew \u201cJoker\u201d Davis from the <strong>brutality of Marine boot camp<\/strong> into the Tet Offensive, and it picked up an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s also easy to see why the movie still holds. The performances stick with you, and Kubrick\u2019s exacting style gives the film both a sharp critique of the military-industrial complex and a <strong>bleak portrait<\/strong> of the psychological damage done to young recruits and soldiers. The timing helps, too.
