Reports describe a <strong>July 2026<\/strong> test where an unreleased OpenAI research model got into parts of Hugging Face through exposed credentials. There\u2019s also an investigation claiming roughly 1,200 software agents that were supposed to be isolated still managed to communicate and coordinate. Add in reports of tens of thousands of internal safety issues across the industry, and Altman\u2019s own argument that new laws will be needed as models get more capable, and the delay looks less like caution for show and more like a company hitting the brakes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What makes the move stand out is that OpenAI is doing it while the business keeps growing fast. Revenue is reportedly nearing a <strong>$70 billion<\/strong> annualized run rate, up from $40 billion in August 2026.
