Sony has pushed a new update to the standard PlayStation 5 that adds Quick Spectral Super Resolution<\/strong>, or QSSR. It\u2019s a scaled-back take on the PlayStation 5 Pro\u2019s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, and it arrives just ahead of Rockstar Games\u2019 Grand Theft Auto 6, due out on November 19, 2026. According to developers, QSSR helps with fine detail, overall clarity, and image stability across both characters and environments.<\/p>\n\n

Rockstar hasn\u2019t said that Grand Theft Auto 6 will use QSSR, so any connection between the two is still just speculation<\/strong>. Still, it\u2019s easy to see why people are paying attention. Some of the pre-release PlayStation 5 footage has looked a little soft, and Digital Foundry has suggested QSSR could clean that up. The catch is that dropping in a new upscaler this late in development would mean extra engineering work, plus some processing overhead. QSSR also isn\u2019t a system-wide feature right now. Sony has only switched it on in a small number of first-party games, including Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/a> and Ghost of Y\u014dtei<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re planning to play Grand Theft Auto 6 on a base PlayStation 5, this update is probably one to install. Even so, the PlayStation 5 Pro still looks like the stronger option. Grand Theft Auto 6 is already confirmed as PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced, reports still suggest 30fps<\/strong> on the standard console, and demand for the PlayStation 5 Pro in Japan has reportedly been high enough that some sales have gone through lottery systems.<\/p>\n\n

QSSR is available on PlayStation 5, though support is still limited to select games<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
