Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Duo, its foldable iPhone. Pre-orders open on October 16, and the phone goes on sale October 23. Pricing starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, according to Apple.

The bet is obvious: Apple thinks people will pay up for a foldable iPhone. Analysts are already talking about roughly 6 million sales by the end of 2026. Even so, early reports say final assembly yields are only a little above 60%, which points to tight stock at launch.

On Apple’s numbers, you’ll get up to 44 hours of video playback on the 5.4-inch outer display and 31 hours on the 7.6-inch inner screen. The phone also brings foldable-focused iOS 27 features, including Split View, App Store apps optimized for the iPhone Duo, a matte nano-texture finish, two 48MP rear cameras, and support for Apple Pencil USB-C. Then there’s everything Apple hasn’t really answered yet: real-world battery life, hinge durability, display wear over time, dust resistance, third-party app support, MagSafe compatibility, and the missing telephoto lens.

If you’ve been waiting for Apple’s first-gen foldable, this is a launch to keep an eye on. The demo will look polished. The details will matter more. Apple says pre-orders begin October 16, with the first release covering roughly 70 countries and regions, and another 28 markets coming later.
