Prime Video<\/a>\u2019s Reacher<\/em> is the version of Jack Reacher<\/strong> a lot of Lee Child readers were waiting for. It works as an adaptation in a way the Tom Cruise movies<\/a>, divisive from the start, never really did.<\/p>\n

A big part of that comes down to the lead. Cruise was never the 6-foot-5<\/strong> , broad, intimidating former military cop Child wrote on the page. Alan Ritchson gets much closer. He\u2019s 6-foot-3, reportedly put on about 30 pounds of muscle for the role, and he also nails the other half of Reacher: stoic, sharply observant, and emotionally locked down without feeling flat.<\/p>\n\n

Child himself has said Cruise\u2019s involvement helped get the movies financed, but television gave the creative team more room<\/strong> to do the character properly. He\u2019s also been clear about Ritchson, saying he \u201cowned the role.\u201d The audience numbers line up with that. Nielsen says season 1 was the first Amazon<\/a> title to hit No. 1 on the weekly streaming charts, with 1.84 billion minutes viewed. Season 2 reached 1.69 billion minutes. Amazon has also said season 2 was up 50% in its first three days, and the first two seasons sit at 92% and 97% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

So if what you wanted was the Jack Reacher readers had in their heads all along, this is the one to stream<\/strong>. Amazon renewed season 3 before season 2 even premiered, Persuader<\/em> is up next, and Ritchson is executive producing. Reacher<\/em> is streaming now on Prime Video.<\/p>\n
