Lucio Fulci\u2019s 1977 thriller The Psychic is now streaming free on Tubi<\/a><\/strong>. That makes it an easy way into Fulci\u2019s work, and into a film Quentin Tarantino has pointed to as one of his favorite Fulci titles.<\/p>\n

If you mostly know Fulci from The Beyond or City of the Living Dead, this one shows a different side of him. The Psychic, also released as Sette note in nero or Seven Notes in Black, is cleaner, more controlled<\/strong> , and more elegant than those later horror films. Tarantino has been vocal about his love for it and has even mentioned wanting to remake it. Severin Films\u2019 2023 4K restoration, taken from the original camera negative, helped bring the movie back into view, with interviews and a Fulci documentary included in the package.<\/p>\n\n

The story follows clairvoyant Virginia Ducci, whose visions lead her to a skeleton hidden inside her husband\u2019s wall. From there, The Psychic leans less on the flashy giallo murders and more on Hitchcock-style dread<\/strong>, tight, boxed-in tension, and a sharper psychological edge than the dreamlike, operatic thrillers usually associated with Dario Argento.<\/p>\n\n

If you want a way into Lucio Fulci that gets past the gore-heavy reputation, this is a strong place to start. Fabio Frizzi, Franco Bixio, and Vince Tempera\u2019s eerie seven-note theme later showed up in Quentin Tarantino\u2019s Kill Bill: Vol. 1<\/strong>. The film didn\u2019t do much business when it first came out, but over time it\u2019s become one of Fulci\u2019s sharpest and most approachable cult favorites.<\/p>\n\n
